Frequently Asked Questions About Tooth Gems
Frequently Asked Questions About Grillz
What are tooth gems?
Tooth gems are small crystals, stones, or charms that are safely bonded to the surface of your teeth using dental-grade adhesive. They’re non-invasive, pain-free, and a fun way to express your unique style.
Do tooth gems damage your teeth?
Nope! When applied properly by a trained tech (like us!), tooth gems do not damage the enamel or structure of your teeth. We use safe, biocompatible materials and a non-drill method that keeps your smile protected.
How long do they last?
Tooth gems can last anywhere from 4 weeks to over a year, depending on placement, your oral habits, and how well you follow aftercare. Some people wear them for a few months and others rock them for much longer!
Can I remove it myself?
We don’t recommend removing it at home. If you're ready to take it off, visit your dentist so it’s done safely and cleanly.
Is it safe for teens?
We apply gems to clients 18+, but we do accept clients as young as 16 with parental consent. We always prioritize safety and transparency—so we have a short consultation before we install on minors.
Can I eat and drink normally?
Yes! Just avoid extremely hard or sticky foods for the first 24 hours. After that, you can eat and drink like usual (but maybe skip biting into jawbreakers or chewing ice).
Can I brush my teeth normally?
Definitely. You should continue brushing and flossing around your gem like normal—just be gentle around it to keep it secure.
What’s the aftercare look like?
Here’s how to keep your gem sparkling and in place:
💧 No eating or drinking (except water) for 2 hours after application
🍬 Avoid super sticky or hard foods for 24 hours
🪥 Brush gently around the gem
💋 Avoid lip biting, constant tongue rubbing, or picking at it
💎 Don’t use whitening products directly on the gem—it could weaken the bond
What if it falls off?
If it falls off within 30 days, we’ll reapply it once for free. After that, a new application fee applies.
Can I get multiple gems or designs?
Absolutely! We offer singles, clusters, themed sets, and freestyle custom looks. You can go subtle or full glam—whatever fits your vibe.
Do I need to do anything before my appointment?
Come with clean teeth (brushed and flossed), and avoid eating right before. If you've just had dental work, wait at least 2 weeks before booking with us.
Grillz FAQ (Custom Grillz in Chicago)
1) How long do custom grillz take?
Our standard turnaround time is 4–6 weeks from the day we receive your approved impression/scan, confirm your design details, and your balance is paid (if applicable). Busy seasons, complex designs, or remake requests can add time.
2) Do you require a deposit?
Yes. A non-refundable deposit is required to start your custom order and reserve your spot in production. Because grillz are custom-made to your teeth, deposits help cover materials, lab time, and production setup.
3) What does the deposit cover?
Your deposit goes toward your custom grillz order total and secures:
Your design consultation + order setup
Production scheduling with our grillz maker/lab
Materials and initial fabrication steps (varies by design)
4) How do I start my grillz order?
Most customers follow this flow:
Book your Grillz Impression appointment
Choose your style (open face, solid, fang, etc.) + material (ex: silver, 10K/14K gold)
We take your impressions and confirm your design
You pay your deposit (or full amount depending on the order)
Production begins → 4–6 week turnaround
Pickup/shipping + final fit check
5) Where are you located? Do you serve Chicago?
Yes — we’re a Chicago-based custom grillz provider. We serve Chicago and surrounding areas through appointments, pop-ups, and select mobile options depending on the service.
6) Do you do same-day grillz?
No. We do not offer same-day grill delivery for custom sets. Custom grillz require production time for the best fit and finish. Our impressions appointment is the first step.
7) What materials do you offer?
Silver grillz
Gold grillz (commonly 10K/14K/18K depending on availability)
Stone options (ex: CZ and other upgrades)
8) Do grillz damage your teeth?
When made and worn properly, grillz are designed to be safe, but oral health matters. We’re not dentists, and we recommend:
Good hygiene (brushing + flossing)
Not wearing grillz 24/7
Removing grillz to eat (especially sticky/hard foods)
Seeing a dentist if you have pain, swelling, or gum issues
9) How do you take impressions?
We take impressions in-person using professional dental impression materials and a step-by-step process to capture your tooth shape. You’ll also get instructions on how to prepare so your impression is accurate.
10) What if my grillz don’t fit?
It happens occasionally. Teeth and impressions can be tricky — and we plan for that.
If your grillz do not fit properly, we will:
Schedule a refit appointment
Take a new impression
Complete a remake at no cost to you
Important: This no-cost remake policy applies when the fit issue is due to the impression/fabrication process and the grillz have not been damaged or altered after delivery.
11) How many remakes are included if the fit is off?
We include one no-cost remake when a fit issue is confirmed. If additional remakes are needed due to changes outside our control (see next question), a remake fee may apply.
12) What can cause fit changes after the impression?
Fit can change if you:
Had dental work after impressions (fillings, crowns, veneers, bonding)
Began orthodontic treatment (braces, aligners)
Experienced tooth shifting, tooth loss, or major gum changes
Damaged or warped the grillz from heat, chewing, or bending
If any of these happen, let us know — we’ll tell you the best next step.
13) Can I get grillz if I have braces or Invisalign?
Usually no for traditional custom grillz while actively in braces/aligners, because teeth positioning changes and fit won’t hold. If you’re in ortho treatment, ask us first—some styles may be possible depending on your case.
14) Can I get grillz if I have missing teeth, crowns, or veneers?
Sometimes yes, but it depends. These cases may require:
Extra design considerations
A different retention approach
A dentist consult for safety (recommended)
Bring photos or let us know during booking so we can guide you.
15) Do you offer refunds?
Because grillz are custom-made, sales are final once production starts. If there’s a verified fit issue, we correct it through our no-cost remake policy rather than refunds.
16) Can I cancel after I place my order?
You can request cancellation, but because this is custom work:
Deposits are non-refundable
If production has started, additional costs may be non-refundable as well
17) How should I care for my grillz?
To keep your custom grillz clean and shiny:
Rinse after each wear
Brush gently with a soft toothbrush (no harsh abrasives)
Use mild soap + lukewarm water
Store in a protective case
Avoid heat (hot cars, boiling water) and harsh chemicals
18) Can I eat with my grillz in?
We strongly recommend removing grillz before eating. Eating with grillz can:
Damage stones or details
Trap bacteria
Warp the fit over time
19) Will my grillz tarnish or change color?
Some metals can naturally tarnish over time depending on wear, moisture, and care. Regular cleaning and proper storage helps.
20) Do you offer financing or payment plans?
Yes! Afterpay, and Klarna,
21) Do you ship grillz or is it pickup only?
We can do pickup and/or shipping depending on your setup. If shipped:
Customer is responsible for providing the correct address
Tracking is provided when available
Shipping fees may apply
22) What should I bring to my grillz impression appointment?
A clean mouth (brush/floss beforehand)
Any inspiration photos
Notes on which teeth you want (top/bottom, how many teeth)
If you have dental work (crowns/veneers), please mention it
23) How do I choose how many teeth to get?
Most common options:
2 piece (subtle statement)
4 piece
6 piece
8–10 piece (bolder look)
24) What makes your grillz “custom”?
Our custom grillz are made based on your impressions (your exact tooth shape), plus your chosen:
Tooth count (top/bottom)
Base style (open face, solid, etc.)
Metal type
Stone/design upgrades
This ensures a personalized fit and look.
